Bishops Week looks at UM ministry
with younger generations

Bishop Joel N. Martinez (standing, black shirt) greets young people from the Rio Grande Conference at a dinner during Bishops Week June 20-23 in Fayetteville, Ark. The South Central Jurisdiction College of Bishops sponsors the annual program at Mount Sequoyah Conference and Retreat Center. Theme for the 2007 event was “Reaching Younger Generations.” The program included presentations and workshops on ministry at the intersection of faith and pop culture. At least 20 United Methodists from Southwest Texas attended. They joined church members from across the eight-state jurisdiction. Special seminars for district superintendents on “Trends Among Young Clergy” and for lay leaders on “Reaching and Keeping Young Families: The Lay Leader’s Role” preceded the main program.
