First UMC, Port Isabel, plans first VBS in 7 years

“I really think we ought to do this,” Sadie Palmer said. “We really need to hold Vacation Bible School.
The idea just won’t go away.”
It has been seven years since First UMC, Port Isabel, offered its last Vacation Bible School. It wasn’t in our budget, and we didn’t know where we would get the help to do it, but that didn’t deter us.
We began with prayer. The Intercessory Prayer team has been praying for VBS for about a year now.
A sister church gave us a used Vacation Bible School kit, and a newly formed mission team is trying out its wings as it helps us host “Fiesta!” for the neighborhood kids in August.
The congregation has rallied around the idea, and a whirlwind of excitement is moving through the congregation
as the time approaches.
Church members are volunteering to bake cookies, set up crafts, be story tellers, do publicity. As each day passes, more and more is being done to prepare for the big event.
We have no idea how many kids are coming; seven years ago there were 100.
We pray. We prepare. We wait with excitement to see what God is going to do.
